The Acre Fringe Theater Festival takes place among the Crusader castles and beachfront promenades of the old city during the intermediate days of the Jewish holiday of Succot. The festival features special performances of original, avant-garde fringe theater from Israel and around the world. The four day festival will include performances by about 300 artists from Israel and overseas including special premieres, guest performances, street theater and outdoor events.
The street theater and free shows are a popular component of the fringe festival, with 45 different performances of which 17 are premieres, including puppet theater, dance performances, circus acts, video art, mime artists and more.
The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Acre - with its charming alleyways, Crusader castles, underground halls, city walls and picturesque port - serves as the backdrop for the fringe theater festival, which attracts thousands of tourists and visitors. Located in the Western Galilee, the city is a fascinating blend of east and west.
